Arbitration Online, Open to Members:
March 11 – 13, 2022
A key element in ending our strike was agreeing to binding interest arbitration to determine general scale increases (GSI) and recruitment and retention adjustments in each of 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. The arbitrator will ignore any government mandates and be guided by “reasonable advancement towards” the 25th percentile in Canada’s fifteen research-intensive universities (the U15). The arbitrator will also rule on other unresolved items, including salary for duties performed to complete the Fall semester’s teaching, research, and service requirements.
The arbitration dates have been set for March 11-13, 2022 with arbitrator William Kaplan, who will make his decision within 30 days of the final hearing.
The hearing will be online and you, as a member of UMFA, will be provided the opportunity to watch. We will share more details as to how to view these proceedings via email.
Below you will find the Memorandum of Agreement that sets the terms of arbitration, as well as the briefs and replies provided to the arbitrator by UMFA and the administration. PLEASE NOTE: hundreds of pages of supporting documents have been removed from the briefs and replies in order to make the files small enough to upload to the website.
